3rd and Cedar is a blog dedicated to the preservation efforts and stories related to the history of the First Congregational Church. Cara Varnell, Pam Chapin, and myself, Allison King, began the preservation process in January 2014 with a small ministry team interested in diagnosing the condition of the building.
The driving force behind the project is the construction projects slated to take place across the street that threaten the fragile façade. Almost three years of hard work, a capital campaign, and lots of expert analysis later the stained glass windows have been removed and the terra cotta is under investigation.
I try to update the blog twice a month with news about current projects, interesting tidbits from the archive and most importantly oral histories. Stay tuned!
